Running Assessment

Maximise your performance after injury and receive personalised recommendations with Prana Physiotherapy & Heath’s comprehensive running evaluation.

Whether you're a beginner or a lifelong runner, or participate in a sport where running is a key element, our experienced Physiotherapists are here to help. They will skilfully assess your biomechanics, strength, endurance and mobility to address any issues that may impact your performance or lead to injury.

What is Included in a Running Assessment?

Our running assessments offer a thorough 50-minute, face-to-face evaluation with our experienced Physiotherapists. We assess measurements that are evidence based, incorporate up to date technology and create tailored programs to assist you in achieving your goals. You’ll receive a detailed written report outlining areas for improvement, recommended exercises, and when needed, changes to your running program to assist with injury recovery or prevention. This report is to help track progress over time, and is created for you, however we are happy to share and collaborate with your coach if desired.

  • I haven't been to Prana Physiotherapy & Health for a while, what does this mean?
If you haven't attended Prana Physiotherapy & Health for 12 months or more, you will be booked in as an initial appointment. This is because we haven't seen you for a while, it may be for a new issue and our clinicians will need to assess, diagnose and create a management plan for your issue. We will also ask you to fill out our consent form again to update any of your details.
  • I have a new issue but have been to the practice before.
If you are attending for a new injury, you'll be booked in as an initial appointment as our clinicians will need to assess, diagnose and create a management plan for your issue.
  • Do I need a doctor's referral?
No, a doctor's referral is not required to see one of our Physiotherapists.
  • What if I can’t get in to see the same Physiotherapist?
Every effort is made to ensure consistency of patient care. If you are unable to see the same practitioner for your follow-up appointment, rest assured our practitioners work very closely together, and patient handovers and management plans are accessible if the need arises.
  • Is there a waiting list?
We do have a waiting list that our patients can access for their preferred appointments with their current practitioner. To be placed on the list, please call reception on (02) 9436 2565. For new / acute patients we aim to ensure that you are seen within 1-2 days of your enquiry.
  • What should I wear to my Physiotherapy appointment?
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. We also recommend that you wear or bring a singlet or shorts that you can change into so that we can assess you comfortably.
  • I've booked a telehealth consultation, how does it work?
Telehealth allows a physiotherapy or exercise consultation to be done over video or via a phone call. Telehealth bookings can be made by our online booking system or by phoning reception on (02) 9436 2565. Prepayment is required for the consultation. Your Physiotherapist will send you a link to zoom prior to your consultation. After the consultation has been completed, reception will email you a receipt so that you can claim with your private health insurance if you have cover.
  • How do I contact my treating practitioner?
You are able to call the practice directly on (02) 9436 2565 or email physio@pranaphysio.com.au. If your practitioner is with another patient, we will ensure your message is passed on for them to call or email you back as soon as possible.
  • I am a long-term patient of Dr Helen Clare's, who should I see now?
Dr Helen Clare is a specialist physiotherapist who uses the McKenzie Method style of treatment. All of our physiotherapists are trained in using the McKenzie Method. If you previously saw Dr Clare in her Crows Nest rooms, your file will likely still be on our system. Please contact our reception on (02) 9436 2565 to discuss which Physiotherapist will be best to continue your care. Click here to read more about the McKenzie Method.
  • Can you refer me for medical imaging? (X-Ray, Ultrasound, MRI)
Physiotherapists can refer for some types of imaging, however Medicare rebates are not applicable. Please discuss this with your treating practitioner. If imaging is required we generally liaise with your treating medical practitioner.
  • Do you treat acute sporting injuries, do sports taping or fit moon boots?
We do offer short 15-minute appointments for sports taping fitting of moon boots or post acute sporting injury that requires referral for additional imaging. Please contact reception on (02) 9436 2565 or speak to your treating practitioner.
  • What are the consultation fees?
The fees at Prana Physiotherapy & Health are variable depending on the type of appointment you are attending and the clinician you are seeing. For a list of the relevant costs involved for the service you are enquiring about, please call reception on (02) 9436 2565 and they will advise of the appropriate fees.
  • Do you process private health fund rebates on the spot after my consultation?
Yes we certainly can; if you have private health insurance cover for the professional service seen, please bring your membership card with you and we will process an immediate rebate for you at the time of your consultation. The amount of this rebate varies depending on the fund you belong to and the level of cover you have chosen. You are then required to pay the 'gap' - ie. the amount of money the private health fund has not covered.
  • Can I get a private health fund rebate on Clinical Exercise Classes?
Check with your private health fund to see if you are covered for Physiotherapy led clinical exercise (Code 560 or 561). If you are covered, at the completion of your casual class or 10 class pass or 20 class pass, reception will provide you a receipt to claim directly with your private health fund.
  • Is Physiotherapy covered by Medicare?
Physiotherapy is not directly covered by Medicare, however in certain instances you may be eligible for Medicare programs such as the Chronic Disease Management program or Enhanced Primary Care Plan. These programs are managed by your GP, so please discuss these possible options with them. If your GP refers you to our practice under one of these programs, you will be required to pay our full scheduled consultation fees, then claim back your Medicare rebate with our itemised receipts.
  • Do you ‘bulk bill’?
No, we do not process bulk billing for Medicare items. You will be required to pay the gap payment at the time of your appointment, which may be eligible for a private health fund rebate.
